Far away and yet so close – partnerships between towns and cities bring people together.
Town twinning is a way of establishing and maintaining friendly ties between people across all national and cultural borders, and of making sure that barriers between people don't arise in the first place. Town partnerships provide opportunities for encounter and exchange between citizens and to become acquainted with, and learn from, foreign customs and a different culture. They play an important role in helping to build tolerance, understanding for each other, and intercultural skills. We want to strengthen cohesion in Europe and the rest of the world.
Monheim am Rhein has six twin towns. These partnerships have been a part of who we are for years, in some cases even decades. We breathe life into them through student exchanges, cultural and sporting trips, mutual visits by twinning associations, church organizations, and many more clubs and associations besides.
Here, we introduce our six twin towns in France, Israel, Austria, Poland, Turkey and Germany, their history and stories, and above all, their people!
