In Monheim am Rhein, promoting art, culture and educational offers plays an important role. Monheimer Kulturwerke was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Monheim am Rhein in 2018, in the legal form of a limited liability company under German law (GmbH). Its main purpose is to ensure a varied cultural landscape by organizing and carrying out a broad range of events and continuously expanding that range. In addition, Monheimer Kulturwerke will be in charge of running the town's multi-functional event venue K714, which is located in a former industrial plant on the Rhine Promenade and is currently being redeveloped. From 2024 on, it will be able to host up to 4,000 people.
The office of Monheimer Kulturwerke is located in Monheimer Tor and also sell tickets and souvenirs. The office also serves as tourist information center and first point of contact for tourists visiting Monheim am Rhein.
The team of Monheimer Kulturwerke is growing constantly, and will grow even more once the K714 event hall goes into operation as the town's largest and most important event venue. Martin Wiktkowski is the artistic and managing director, Mayor Daniel Zimmermann is chairman of the supervisory board at Monheimer Kulturwerke.
Activities rang from theatre, music, comedy, cabaret and movies to programs for families, kindergartens, schools and many other special programs. Currently, the most important event venues are the auditorium on Berliner Ring, the Bürgerhaus and a number of small indoor locations, but events also take place outdoors, for instance on the open-air stage (Freilichtbühne), at Marienburgpark or on the Baumberg town green (Baumberger Bürgerwiese).
