Delitzsch in Saxony

Delitzsch and Monheim am Rhein have been twinned since 1990, after the German reunification.

Delitzsch is a "grosse Kreisstadt" – the seat of a greater district's administration - in the north-west of the Free State of Saxony, not far from Leipzig. Home to around 25,000 people, it is the fourth-biggest town in the Leipzig-Halle conurbation.

Youth Summit on the "City of the Future"

Fifty young people from four twin towns came together at the Youth Summit in Monheim am Rhein in July 2022. The young delegates from the youth panels of Bourg-la-Reine, France; Delitzsch, Saxony; Malbork, Poland; Tirat Carmel, Israel; and the Monheim Youth Parliament pitched their tents on Kapellenstrasse and spent a week discussing what a youth-friendly "City of the Future" would look like. Apart from the workshops, there was enough space and time for the participants to make friends with each other. At the end of the summit, the young people presented their results to the mayors and representatives of the twin towns.

The Youth Summit was funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

In March 2019, the dancers from SG Monheim also invited groups from all our twin towns to take part in their dance gala. Three dance groups from Ataşehir, Malbork and the youth dance group Nordlichter from a school in Delitzsch accepted the invitation. The crowd first went wild for a joint performance by all of the visiting groups, before our guests from Delitzsch showed off their diverse repertoire by performing various dances. The audience were blown away by the sophisticated and imaginative performances, which even included live singing.

Visit to the Peter and Paul festival in Delitzsch

Every year, Delitzsch hosts a large town festival with historical groups and plenty of concerts. In June 2017, Monheim’s "Marienburg-Garde" – a traditional carnival dance group - performed at the festival, much to the delight of the people of Delitzsch. The ensemble was accompanied by a delegation including the Mayor.

Following an invitation from the Baumberg male choir, the Schulze Delitzsch choir attended Monheim’s Stadtfest in May 2017, opening the festival with a performance. The choirs enjoyed a few wonderful days together and even gave a joint concert in Baumberg.
