City Cars

The power comes from MEGA, the know-how from the South German car sharing provider Mikar, and the idea and funding from the City Council. Since May 2^nd, city employees and Monheim's citizens will be sharing nine Renault ZOEs and two nine-seater Renault Master estates for their mobility. The City Cars are here!

The vehicles can be reserved and hired online. During daytime, they will also be used partly as official service cars, but otherwise they will be available to the public for use around the clock. The nine ZOEs are e-powered and fueled with 100 % green electricity from MEGA in Monheim am Rhein.

No worries about range

There's no need to worry about longer journeys with the little electric cars. Registered City Car drivers can travel over 300 kilometers under optimum conditions and with fully charged batteries (according to the standardized WLTP measurements), and recharging is fast and uncomplicated. The smart e-cable in the ZOEs automatically starts charging at all MEGA charging stations in Monheim am Rhein and at every Innogy charger even outside Monheim, with no advance notice or prior registration. Recharging, wherever it takes place, is included in the tariff for all electrically powered city cars and thus free. Hiring a ZOE costs from € 3.90 per hour. The 24-hour rental fee is € 24.90 with no mileage limit.

The two spacious Renault Master estate cars are diesel-powered nine-seaters. They will be available for occasions such as club excursions or other private events with larger groups. The price per hour is € 4.90, the daily rate including 300 kilometers is € 39.90. Each additional kilometer adds only 10 eurocents to the bill.

Easy booking by app

Collection and return points for the cars are located at number 3 Krischerstrasse, in the car park in Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square) and at 17c "Haus der Chancen" in Friedenaustrasse. Re-connection to the specially-marked City Car charging points, which look different from MEGA's public power chargers, automatically ends the rental thanks to the e-cable technology.

This is how to book: the smart city of Monheim am Rhein works in co-operation with car sharing provider Mikar to make the City Cars available. To register for the service, details of the driver's license and a bank account must be provided. Mikar then emails a contract form to print out and sign. The signed agreement must be presented at the Municipal Services Center ("Bürgerbüro", City Hall, Rathausplatz 2) together with the driver's license and identification. Only one working day after registration, the City Cars can be rented and driven. However, the Mikar app is only available after the registration process has been completed – in order to use the app, you need to register online first.
